Published on October 26, 2019, Mean Machine, a University of Nairobi rugby team, is gearing up for the Kenya Rugby Union Championship with a match against South Coast Pirates.

After being relegated from the Kenya Cup in the 2018-19 season, the team is determined to regain their top-flight status.

Head coach Ramsfield Matekwa has warned his team against complacency, stating, "A lot of teams are eyeing the two promotion slots and it's not going to be easy for us. We can’t just assume that things will be simple because we are in the championship."

Matekwa has identified Strathmore Leos, USIU, and MMUST as the teams to beat in the battle for promotion back to the top.

Other teams competing in the championship include Strathmore, who will face Northern Suburbs, USIU, Egerton, and MMUST in their respective matches.

Meanwhile, South Africa has suffered a setback ahead of their World Cup semi-final against Wales, with dangerman Cheslin Kolbe ruled out through injury.
