Published on October 25, 2019, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has urged the court to detain Jane Mugo, a private investigator, at Lang'ata Women's Prison for her own safety.

The request comes after Mugo claimed her life is in danger due to death threats from investigating officers in a case where she is accused of threatening to kill two people.

According to Mugo, the threats to her life and her family began in 2014, but despite her reporting to the police, none of the cases were dealt with.

She was charged in September with threatening to kill Deepa Shah Desmond at Kyuna Close in Spring Valley on February 4, and also faced a second count of threatening to kill Martin Mugusia in 2015.

Initially, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) linked Mugo to various criminal activities, including robbery with violence, impersonation, and threatening to kill, but she only faced the latter charge in court.

Mugo has described the DCI's actions as a 'witch hunt', labeling her a 'serial criminal'. A warrant of arrest was issued after she failed to attend a court session on September 10, 2019, at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi.

She is currently out on a Sh300,000 cash bail with an alternative bond of Sh500,000, and the matter will be mentioned on November 6, 2019.
