On October 24, 2019, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti found himself at the receiving end of accusations of contempt of court from Sarah Wairimu and her lawyer Phillip Murgor in the Tob Cohen murder case.
However, Kinoti has since turned the tables on the duo, accusing them of a deliberate scheme to argue Wairimu's innocence outside of court.
Through his lawyer Donald Kipkorir, Kinoti argued that the application by Wairimu is a blatant abuse of advocate-client privilege, with the advocate allegedly using the move to settle grudges against the top detective and the DPP.
According to Kinoti, it is Wairimu and Murgor who are in contempt of court, not him.
"The court should take judicial notice that Sarah Wairimu and her lawyer Phillip Murgor have since before and after the arrest been on every media and forum in Kenya including YouTube giving an alternative narrative of the material circumstances on this case and if anyone is in contempt of the court it is the duo," reads the DCI's response.
Kinoti also stated that it is the duty of law enforcers worldwide to provide full information where a crime has been committed.
