Man Charged with Attempting to Rape Grandmother

On October 24, 2019, a disturbing case came to light in Kiambu, where a middle-aged man was arraigned before a court on charges of attempting to rape his grandmother.

Michael Karanja Wairimu, the accused, appeared before Kiambu senior Principal magistrate Stella Atambo, charged with attempting to rape his grandmother in Banana Township on October 10, 2019.

According to the Sexual Offences Act of 2006, Wairimu was accused of intentionally and unlawfully attempting to sexually assault his grandmother, contrary to the law.

He also faced an alternative count of indecent assault, alleging that on the same day and place, he touched his grandmother's private parts.

Wairimu pleaded not guilty to both counts and was released on a Sh100, 000 bond with a surety of similar amount pending the hearing, which is set for January 3, 2020.

Senior state counsel Donnex Ongira stated that he had lined up five witnesses to support the case against Wairimu.

Additionally, in the same court, Bernard Mungai was charged with defiling an 11-year-old minor on October 20th at Gachie estate.

Mungai faced an alternative count of committing an indecent act with a minor, alleging that he unlawfully touched the minor's private parts.

He pleaded not guilty to both counts and was released on Sh200,000 bond and a surety of a similar amount pending the hearing, which is set for January 6, 2020, with mentioning on November 5, 2019.

Ongira, appearing for the prosecution, told the court that he had lined up six witnesses to prove his case against Mungai.
