This archive report was first published on 6 September 2021.

On September 9, 2021, Citizen TV reported that Deputy President William Ruto's motorcade was pelted with stones by supporters in Kieni, Nyeri County, while heading to a church service.

The incident occurred during a live broadcast, and the station documented the event.

However, the DP's supporters have refuted the reports, accusing Citizen TV of intentionally running a narrative to depict Ruto as unwanted in the Mt. Kenya region.

They also criticized the station for mentioning Ruto's business partner, Harun Aydin, instead of the Artur brothers in their weekly 'National Reminder' segment.

Leading the boycott call is Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, who advised the 'Hustler Nation' to desist from watching Citizen TV.

'I advise the Hustler Nation to desist from watching Citizen TV Kenya. They are taking us back to the dark days of KANU and KADU where biased news was a norm. We can update ourselves using alternative sources like social media platforms.'

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa also joined the call, urging all hustlers to click the dislike button on Citizen TV's Facebook page.

As a result of the boycott, Citizen TV has lost over 5,000 likes on Facebook, with a significant reduction in Twitter followers and Instagram followers.
