On October 23, 2019, a 40-year-old man was arrested for allegedly defiling a Class One pupil in a village in Rachuonyo South Sub-county.
The suspect, a casual labourer, was taken into custody on Monday evening after the pupil's grandmother raised an alarm when she saw the child limping.
According to Kodera South Location Senior Assistant Chief Harison Ogigo, the grandmother had interviewed the girl, who disclosed that she had been defiled.
The suspect initially fled to a nearby village in Rangwe Sub-county but was later apprehended with the help of Nyumba Kumi officials and taken to Nyawita Police Post.
Ogigo urged parents to be vigilant and watchful of their daughters.
