On Sunday, a tragic incident unfolded at Ndori village in Kothidha location, Homa Bay Sub County, where a 41-year-old man, John Nyambok, lost his life in a fight over a widow.
The incident occurred when Nyambok and another man, Kennedy Abong'o, confronted each other over who should inherit the widow, who was secretly dating both of them.
According to reports, Nyambok and Abong'o had both inherited the widow following the death of her husband, but none of them knew that the other was seeing the woman.
Witnesses reported that the men met at the widow's house on Sunday, and drama started when they confronted each other.
Abong'o allegedly hit Nyambok with a blunt object, leaving him unconscious, and then fled the scene.
Nyambok was rushed to Marindi Health Centre for treatment but later died.
Following Nyambok's death, an irate mob carried his body to Abong'o's home to express their anger and burnt down four houses within the compound.
The mob targeted two houses belonging to Abong'o's wives and two houses for his children, forcing the family to flee.
Homa Bay County Police Commander Esther Seroney confirmed that a manhunt for Abong'o has been launched, but his whereabouts are currently unknown.
The body of the deceased was taken to Homa Bay County referral hospital mortuary for postmortem.
