On October 21, 2019, Cate Waruguru, a Kenyan Member of Parliament, introduced a bill to the National Assembly seeking to make circumcision a mandatory practice for all males.
The bill aims to address what Waruguru perceives as a public health issue, with six of her ten closest female friends reportedly suffering from sexually transmitted infections due to intimate relationships with uncircumcised men.
Waruguru expressed disappointment and frustration with men who have not undergone circumcision, describing them as 'cowardly and childish.' She argued that even infants are subjected to circumcision without adverse effects, and that the practice should be compulsory to promote public health and hygiene.
The Laikipia women representative emphasized the need for the Kenyan government to support the bill and ensure its passage into law, citing the potential benefits of reducing the spread of diseases and promoting a cleaner environment.
Waruguru also appealed to circumcised men to encourage their uncircumcised counterparts to undergo the procedure, suggesting that it would be easier to adopt the practice before it becomes compulsory.
