On October 21, 2019, Kenya's coffee market experienced a significant boost, with prices rising by 13 percent in last week's trading.
The Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) reported that a 50-kilo bag of coffee averaged Sh12,938, up from Sh11,435 in the previous sale.
NCE Chief Executive Daniel Mbithi attributed the price increase to the high demand for quality coffee, which had a positive impact on the market.
The price surge in New York, from US$0.95 per pound to around $1.04, also contributed to the increase in Kenya's coffee price.
As Kenya sells over 95 percent of its coffee to the international market, the value of the crop is largely determined by global prices.
While the good prices trend may continue, the NCE warned that prices remain volatile and high volumes from leading producers could negatively impact earnings in the coming days.
