On Saturday, Mathare United pulled off a stunning comeback to defeat Kisumu All Stars 2-1 in a Kenyan Premier League match at Moi Stadium, Kisumu. The match, which took place on October 19, 2019, was a thrilling encounter that saw the visitors come from behind to secure the win.
Kevin Kimani and Clifford Alwanga were the heroes for Mathare United, scoring in the 69th and 72nd minutes respectively. Gerishom Osumba had given Kisumu All Stars the lead just after the restart, but Mathare United's determination paid off as they capitalized on their opponents' mistakes to take the win.
Mathare United coach Salim Ali was over the moon with his team's performance, saying, "Winning an away match is not easy especially when you are playing against an unfamiliar opponent. They (All Stars) made it difficult for us but my players capitalised on their mistakes to beat them."
On the other hand, Kisumu All Stars coach Henry Omino was left dejected, saying, "I still can't believe we lost because we all anticipated a win against Mathare after taking the lead. However my defence let lose in the last minute and our opponents took advantage."
Meanwhile, in another Kenyan Premier League match, AFC Leopards secured a 1-1 draw against Western Stima at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos. Tresor Ndikumana scored the equalizer for AFC Leopards in the 86th minute, reacting fast to bury a rebound after Samuel Odhiambo had parried John Makwatta's long range drive from a freekick.
