Heavy rains have continued to wreak havoc across Kenya, claiming four lives in a landslide in Marakwet East on Friday.

According to reports, over 5,000 families have been displaced in Lodwar town after their homes were destroyed by floods.

Transport between Lodwar and Kitale has been paralyzed since River Kawalasee burst its banks.

Similarly, transport in most parts of the Coastal counties has been cut off due to heavy rains in the region.

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has called on county governments to set up emergency funds to deal with disasters occasioned by floods.

Speaking during the official launch of Jumla market in Konbani, Kwale County, CS Wamalwa appealed to county governments to set aside 2% of their budget to deal with crisis such as floods.

Five counties, including Tana River, Garissa, Wajir, and Mandera, have so far been affected by floods.

Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya has indicated that his administration has already set aside Ksh.70 million to deal with floods-related issues.

Among the areas affected in Kwale are Vanga, Vumbu, Miembeni, and some parts of Matuga.
