Published on June 26, 2020, Nairobi — The Amani National Congress (ANC) Governing Council has taken a decisive step in expelling Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala from the party.
The move comes after Senator Malala failed to respond to charges levelled against him by the party's disciplinary committee, which had suspended him in November last year.
ANC Secretary General Barrack Muluka stated that the committee summoned Senator Malala to appear and respond to charges related to his utterances and activities at a political rally convened by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in the run-up to the Kibra by-elections in October.
According to Muluka, Senator Malala's remarks prejudiced the integrity and reputation of the ANC Party and its membership.
