Kenyan marathoner Eliud Kipchoge has arrived in Mombasa ahead of Mashujaa Day celebrations, where he will be honored for his historic achievement of becoming the first person to run a marathon under two hours.

According to reports, Kipchoge was flown into the coastal city by the Kenya Wildlife Service on Saturday, October 19, in readiness for the celebrations.

He was invited to attend the heroes fete alongside women marathon record holder Brigid Kosgei, who won the Chicago marathon, a day after Kipchoge's Vienna record.

On October 12, Kipchoge made history in Vienna, Austria, by becoming the first person to run a marathon under two hours, completing the 42km race in 1:59:40.

His victory came barely a day after Kosgei broke the women's marathon world record in Chicago, completing the 42km race in 2:14:02.

The two athletes are set to be honored during the national fete, which is reserved to remember and celebrate heroes.
