Tragedy can strike anyone, but for politicians, the loss of a child can be particularly devastating. In recent years, several high-profile politicians have suffered the loss of their children in accidents, murder, and suicide.

One such case is that of Dalmas Otieno, whose 23-year-old son Isaiah was killed in a helicopter crash on May 13, 2008 in Cranbrook, Canada.

Isaiah was walking to the post office to mail letters to family and friends when the helicopter crashed on top of him.

Another politician who has lost a child is Njeru Githae, whose 23-year-old son Brian Karanga was found dead in 2012 at his father's home in Runda estate, Nairobi. It was alleged that Brian had committed suicide.

Former Eldoret MCA aspirant James Ratemo Nyambane's three children, Clifford, Glen, and Taya, were found murdered and their bodies dumped in River Nzoia in 2012. The children had gone missing after leaving for Eldovil SDA Church.

Former assistant minister Archbishop Stephen Ondiek's three children died in a grisly road accident in November 2002 while returning to Nairobi after helping their father win a nomination for the Ugenya parliamentary seat.

Former internal security minister Julius Sunkuli's son Salaton died mysteriously in 2018, with his body found at the mortuary more than 10 days after police transferred it there.

Raila Odinga, the former Prime Minister of Kenya, lost his son Fidel Odinga in 2015.

Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama's son Ndemo Nyangarama passed away after a two-month battle with Acute Meningitis at the Nairobi Hospital.
