Francis Atwoli, the influential Secretary General of COTU, has been shown the door after 16 years of serving as a board member at National Bank.

Atwoli's departure is part of a broader shakeup at the bank, which was recently acquired by KCB to revamp its operations.

According to reports, Atwoli joined the bank's board in April 2003, representing workers' interests.

However, the bank has struggled with successive years of losses, prompting KCB to intervene.

Explaining the decision to remove Atwoli, KCB stated that it is using its two-year transition period to streamline human resources, systems, and processes to achieve productivity synergies.

The group plans to run the bank as a standalone subsidiary before integrating it within two years of the acquisition.
