On October 18, 2019, a close call with con artists left Selina actress Celestine Gachuhi shaken. She had almost lost Sh10,000 to the scammers.
According to Gachuhi, the incident began with a phone call from a stranger who claimed to be from a telecom company. She provided her age and birth year, unaware of the danger lurking.
“I had some money on my phone and some guy gave me a call and called me by my name. I thought it was a telecom company. I told them my age and the year I was born,” she said on the ‘Janjaruka’ con story series.
However, when the caller asked for her PIN, Gachuhi's instincts kicked in, and she became reluctant. She later discovered that the scammers had used her information to change her PIN, rendering her phone unusable.
Undeterred, Gachuhi bought a new phone line and managed to prevent the scammers from stealing her money.
