At least four people lost their lives in the Mwingi floods in Kitui, with their car being swept away by the raging waters.
According to Matinyani OCPD John Sawe, the driver and co-driver of the vehicle managed to survive the accident and were rushed to Mwingi Level Four Hospital.
The vehicle, a double cabin pick-up, was headed to Kitui from Mwingi when the driver attempted to cross River Mutindi, but the bridge collapsed.
Police and Red Cross officials retrieved the four bodies from the river and have since been moved to the Kitui Level Five Hospital mortuary.
Witnesses reported that the driver tried to cross the river but the bridge gave way, leading to the tragic incident.
