On October 16, 2019, Italian football club AS Roma made history by launching a Swahili social media page, becoming the first European club to do so.
AS Roma's decision to create a Swahili page was motivated by their desire to reach out to fans from all over the world, including Kenya.
According to Paul Rogers, Head of Digital at Roma, the move was inspired by the passion that fans have for European football.
"Considering the passion the fans have for European football, it’s actually surprising that no football club outside of Africa has attempted to communicate daily in Swahili and Pidgin before on social media," Rogers said.
AS Roma's Swahili page went official on October 16, 2019, with a trademark video that left Kenyan fans overjoyed.
