On October 16, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta flagged off the inaugural Phase 2A of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) train to Suswa, amidst criticism from some quarters.

Speaking during the ceremony, the President emphasized the importance of modern infrastructure in attracting investors to the country.

"Kenya won't be able to attract investors without modern infrastructure," he said.

President Kenyatta also used the opportunity to drum up support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), urging Kenyans not to be misled by those who claim it is about politics.

During the development tour, the President officially inaugurated the Ngong SGR Station in Kajiado County and commissioned the Kimuka-Oloishoibor Community Water Supply Project in the County.

He also commissioned the construction of the JKIA to Westlands Expressway.

President Kenyatta, who was accompanied by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, senior Government officials, and several Governors, asked Kenyans to be cautious of what they say and concentrate on what will bring development to the country.
