Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi and Majority Leader Abdi Guyo can breathe a sigh of relief after a truce was brokered between the warring factions at the city assembly.

On October 16, 2019, Jubilee Party secretary general Raphael Tuju announced that following a meeting with the party's MCAs, they had agreed to maintain the status quo.

This means that Elachi will continue serving as the assembly speaker and Mr. Guyo as the majority leader, with the assembly sittings set to resume on October 29, 2019.

According to Tuju, the rule of law must be respected, as there is an existing court order reinstating Elachi's position as speaker.

He also stated that the party will invite Elachi to meet with all the MCAs to discuss the issues that led to her dramatic impeachment last year.

Regarding Guyo's position, Tuju indicated that he would remain the majority leader until the party pronounces itself on the leadership of the ruling party at the county assembly.

However, Governor Mike Sonko had written to the party requesting that Guyo be replaced with Mark Ndung'u, accusing the Matopeni MCA of undermining his administration.
