Aisha Jumwa's Arrest Marks End of Her Political Career, Says William Chepkut

On October 15, 2019, Aisha Jumwa, a member of parliament from Malindi, visited the home of Reuben Katana, a candidate from the ODM party, in Ganda. Shortly after her arrival, a scuffle broke out between her supporters and those of Katana, resulting in the latter's death by gunshot.

William Chepkut, a member of parliament from Ainabkoi, has stated that Jumwa's arrest may mark the end of her political career. Chepkut, an ally of Deputy President William Ruto, believes that Jumwa's involvement in the incident that led to Katana's death may have severe consequences for her political future.

"Kila wanasiasa wanapokamatwa huwa wanahisi kuwa wanapata umaarufu na kujijengea jina. Lakini kwa Aisha, huenda ikawa karaha kwani mzozo uliomhusisha ulipelekea kuuawa kwa mtu mmoja ambaye hana hatia," Chepkut said.

The people of Ganda will be voting on October 17, 2019, to elect their new member of parliament. Jumwa has been accused of interfering with the electoral process by campaigning despite the deadline having passed.
