On July 13, the Hague Institute for Innovation of Law (HiiL) will host the final of the Southern African leg of its annual global Innovating Justice Challenge. The event will see up to five social entrepreneurs selected to participate in the Justice Accelerator Programme, receiving four months of intensive programmatic support and a coveted EUR10,000 grant.

Founded in 2009, HiiL is a social enterprise dedicated to user-friendly justice. Its goal is to increase access to accessible, understandable, and effective justice by encouraging innovation and scaling what works best.

Over 200 applications were received from startups with high-impact justice innovations, and HiiL has selected the top seven to pitch. These startups include BUA, LegalFundi, Legal Ascend, Moloa365, Kleva Contracts, IP Braai, and EzyFind.

Each of these startups has developed innovative solutions to address challenges in accessing justice. BUA, for example, identifies hindrances in accessing justice and formulates technological solutions to empower victims. LegalFundi simplifies legal and regulatory processes to ensure compliance and unlock opportunities.

Legal Ascend enables the recently bereaved to manage estate executorship correctly and easily, while Moloa365 offers an online free legal advice service. Kleva Contracts democratizes access to legal services by providing online contract creation, access to legal services, and educational material in multiple South African languages.

IP Braai is an online legal agency focused on Intellectual Property and Commercial Law, and EzyFind empowers South African citizens with legal information and free legal contracts for online digital download.
