Kenyan musician Akothee has left many tongues wagging after revealing her lucrative performance fees. Published on October 16, 2019, she disclosed that it costs a hefty one million shillings to book her for a gig, excluding two hundred thousand shillings for other logistics.
Speaking during an interview with Willy M Tuva, Akothee emphasized that her performance fee is ten thousand dollars minus logistics, and warned promoters not to call her or her manager if they cannot meet her demands.
"My performance fee is ten thousand dollars minus logistics, if you don’t that don’t call me or my manager coz I will not come," she revealed.
Defending her performance fee, Akothee, who calls herself the black partner of Africa, argued that Kenyan promoters can afford to pay international artists millions but pay local artists peanuts.
"Kenya promoters can afford to pay Davido one million, the problem I have with Kenya promoters is that they underrate Kenyan musicians and it’s also high time Kenyan musicians to raise their standards," she said.
Akothee also revealed that the least amount she has ever been paid to perform was four hundred thousand shillings, and expressed her frustration at being paid such low amounts.
"Kidogo imelipwa ni four hundred thousand na nikidogo sana, saa 400k nitafanyia nini na band peke yake nalipa 300k band alone without dancers," she revealed.
