On October 16, 2019, Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa was arrested at her home in Kakuyuni, Malindi, at 3am.

The arrest came after a man was shot dead in a clash between rival ODM party supporters in Ganda Ward, Malindi.

Before the scuffle, Jumwa stormed an ODM agents meeting at Reuben Katana's home, where Katana, the ODM candidate for the upcoming Ganda Ward by-elections, was planning with his agents how to handle the by-election on October 17.

However, Jumwa questioned the meeting's timing, asking why it was being held at night after the campaign period had lapsed.

ODM officials insisted that the meeting was for agents training, but the explanation did not prevent the confrontation, which left an unknown number of people injured.

Malindi sub-county Police Commander Phillip Wambugu confirmed that investigations into the incident were underway.
