On October 16, 2019, a significant trade deal was announced between a Kenyan-based coffee producer and an American beverages company.
The agreement will see the New York-listed Puration Company (PURA) produce CBD-infused lattes for the United States and European markets.
The CBD will be extracted from marijuana plant leaves, resins, and flowers, and used in a range of beverages, including non-alcoholic wine, water, and kombucha.
According to PURA, this partnership will lead to a spike in profits for coffee farmers, who will receive a fair price for their coffee under the Fair Trade agreement.
“Today, PURA is proud to announce entering into an agreement with a Fair Trade producer of coffee in Kenya. Farmers who grow Fair Trade coffee receive a fair price and their communities and the environment benefit as well,” said a company disclosure.
