On October 16, 2019, a violent confrontation erupted between rival supporters of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in Ganda Ward, Malindi, Kilifi County, leaving one person dead.

Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa stormed a meeting of ODM agents at a house belonging to Reuben Katana, the ODM candidate in the upcoming Ganda Ward by-elections, sparking the incident.

The meeting was reportedly meant to plan how ODM agents would handle the by-election on October 17, but Jumwa's sudden arrival and questioning of the meeting's purpose led to the confrontation.

ODM officials insisted that the meeting was for agents' training, but the explanation failed to calm the situation.

Malindi sub-county Police Commander Phillip Wambugu confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Meanwhile, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) summoned ODM Chairman John Mbadi over violence in the Kibra by-elections that targeted Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga.
