On October 8, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta's relationship with Deputy President William Ruto continued to deteriorate, with the President seeking help from opposition leader Raila Odinga.
According to sources, Uhuru needed enough numbers in Parliament to push the borrowing ceiling for his government, and he secretly reached out to Raila for assistance.
Uhuru's plea to Raila was prompted by Ruto's demands, which included calling for a Jubilee Party Parliamentary Meeting (PG) and rallying all Jubilee MPs and leaders to campaign for McDonald Mariga in the by-election.
However, Ruto's wing has denied these allegations, with Aden Duale, the Jubilee majority leader, confirming that the PG was abandoned last minute after ODM and Wiper sided with the Kieleweke wing of Jubilee.
Raila tasked ODM Party chair John Mbadi, Minority Whip Junet Mohamed, and Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo to rally the ODM troops in support of Uhuru's motion.
