Kenyan distance runner Lawrence Cherono made history on Sunday, October 13, 2019, by winning the Chicago Marathon in a thrilling sprint. The 2019 Boston Marathon champion crossed the finish line in 2 hours, 05 minutes, and 45 seconds.
Cherono's impressive performance saw him beat Ethiopians Defene Debela and Asefa Mengstu to second and third places, respectively, with clocking times of 2:05:46 and 2:05:48. Another Kenyan, Bedan Karoki, settled for fourth place in 2:05:53.
Mo Farah of Britain, the last year's winner, finished a distant eighth in 2:09:58, marking a disappointing end to a week marred by controversy surrounding his former coach Alberto Salazar.
