On October 12, 2019, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i cautioned Kenyans against a fake gazette notice claiming that he had declared Monday, October 14th as a public holiday.

The notice, which circulated on social media, stated that the day was to be a public holiday in celebration of athlete Eliud Kipchoge's exceptional success in Vienna, Austria on Saturday.

However, Matiang'i took to his official Twitter page to clarify that the notice was indeed fake, urging Kenyans to ignore it.

“NOTICE TO ALL KENYANS. The notice attached is FAKE. Kindly ignore,” tweeted Matiang’i.

Despite the fake notice, Kipchoge made history by becoming the first man to complete the 42-kilometer race in less than two hours, clocking 1 hour, 59 minutes and 40 seconds.
