Published on October 12, 2019, the Kenya Premier Chess League is set to resume today at the KCB Sports Club, with Equity Bank Chess Club seeking redemption.

As the defending champions, Equity Bank is currently seventh in the log with 46 points, tied with Nakuru Chess Club after playing 18 matches. They trail leaders KCB, who are top with 69 points.

Equity Bank captain John Mukabi expressed his team's focus on catching up with the leaders, despite KCB having a significant upper hand in clinching the title.

With five games in hand, Equity Bank is looking to use this opportunity to climb up the table after missing play for the past three legs.

“The players are fresh and eager to play after missing play for the past weeks. We didn’t start well and we wanted to use this opportunity to try and chase KCB who are 23 points away,” John Mukabi said.

Equity Bank will face Daystar University in their first match today before facing Bank of Africa the following day.

“We have to win our matches this weekend if we are to stand a chance of cutting KCB’s lead to eight points. We know they have an upper hand in the title race and it’s not going to be easy but we believe we can do it,” John Mukabi said.
