On October 11, 2019, a devastating tragedy struck the Likoni Ferry, resulting in the loss of Mariam Kigenda and her four-year-old daughter Amanda.
Thirteen days later, John Wambua, Mariam's widower, arrived at the retrieval venue to identify the bodies of his loved ones.
Wambua had been waiting for this moment, keeping a brave face despite the immense pain he was feeling.
"It is a pain I cannot wish even on my enemies," Wambua said in a past interview.
According to sources, the mother and daughter were found in a tight embrace at the back seat of their car, which had slid off the moving ferry, the MV Harambee, into the Indian Ocean.
Investigators had a hard time separating the bodies due to the strong bond between Mariam and Amanda.
Government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna was set to brief the press on the tragic incident.
