On September 29, a car slid off a ferry and sank 58 meters deep into the Likoni channel, a tragic incident that shocked the nation.
After nearly two weeks in the water, the Kenya navy finally retrieved the vehicle on Friday at around 4 pm.
The retrieval was a major operation that involved the use of sonar equipment and underwater cameras, and it was a significant test for the Kenya navy, particularly ahead of this year's Mashujaa day celebrations in Mombasa.
According to reports, the bodies of Mariam Kighenda, 35, and Amanda Mutheu, 4, were also pulled out of the water, although it is unclear whether they were inside the car.
