Naivasha Law court has been presented with an urgent application by Gilgil MP Martha Wangari, seeking to block her husband, Peter Njoroge Karanja, from accessing their two children until a divorce case is finalized.

The application, filed on October 11, 2019, cites reasons for this prayer as mental anguish, possible ridicule, stress, stigma, and accompanying danger on the part of the children if her husband is not restrained.

Martha Wangari also prays that the court compels her husband to pay Ksh. 270,000 per month as upkeep for their children, accusing him of neglecting them by failing to provide for their needs.

Furthermore, she seeks permission to access their rural home in Gilgil, claiming she cannot do so currently and is unable to inspect and evaluate if the home is suitable for occupancy.

However, Peter Njoroge Karanja's lawyer, Irungu Mburu, opposed the application, stating that granting some of the prayers sought in the petition on grounds of criminal allegations leveled against his client could not be a legal basis for denying the respondent an equal right in marriage.

The couple has been married for five years and filed for divorce last month, with Martha Wangari alleging that her husband put her through physical and emotional abuse.

The petition is set to be determined on November 6, 2019.
