On October 11, 2019, a historic upset occurred at the Shanghai Masters as Novak Djokovic, the world number one, was knocked out of the tournament by sixth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals.

Tsitsipas, a 21-year-old Greek player, came from behind to win the match 3-6 7-5 6-3, marking his first victory over the current world number one.
