On October 11, 2019, a historic upset occurred at the Shanghai Masters as Novak Djokovic, the world number one, was knocked out of the tournament by sixth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals.
Tsitsipas, a 21-year-old Greek player, came from behind to win the match 3-6 7-5 6-3, marking his first victory over the current world number one.
With this win, Tsitsipas secured his spot in the semi-finals, where he will face Daniil Medvedev, who defeated Fabio Fognini 6-3 7-6 (7-4).
Tsitsipas' victory also confirmed his debut at next month's ATP Finals in London.
According to Djokovic, Tsitsipas played high-quality tennis and deserved to win, citing the Greek player's aggressive first shots and ability to dictate the play from the back of the court.
