On June 26, 2020, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced plans to create a Women's African Champions League.

Currently, there are no football club competitions for women's football in Africa, whereas Europe already has a Women's Champions League.

By launching this new competition, CAF seeks to promote women's football in Africa and provide opportunities for female players to compete at a higher level.
