Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has arrested two directors of Olympus Computer Garage Limited, George Bhutto Abiga and Berard Ochieng Okello, over alleged tax evasion of Sh1.4 billion.
According to KRA Commissioner for investigations and enforcement David Yego, the company failed to declare taxes due from sales made between September 2014 and August 2016. The company also failed to declare imported computer gadgets and accessories, such as laptops and flash drives, which attract a 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) and Railway Development Levy (RDI).
Yego noted that the company filed nil returns for Corporation tax and failed to declare sales of over Sh1 billion for the years 2014, 2015, and 2016. If found guilty, the directors could face a fine of up to Sh10 million or double the tax they evaded, as well as up to three years in jail.
Abiga and Okello are due in court tomorrow.
