On Tuesday, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) made a significant breakthrough in the fight against mobile money fraud, arresting seven suspects in Kabete, Kiambu County.
According to the DCI, the suspects were involved in conning unsuspecting individuals through 'M-Shwari withdrawals, fake M-Pesa reversal claims and M-Pesa con SMS.'
The suspects, aged between 21 and 28, were identified as Victor Rono, Mercy Chepkirui, Nicholas Kipkurui, Wesley Kiprono, Robert Kibet, Faith Chepkorir, and Felix Tanui.
During the arrest, the detectives seized over 200 sim cards, numerous mobile phones, and several agent registration registers from two separate houses in Kabete.
The suspects were detained pending arraignment, bringing to light the ongoing efforts of the DCI to combat mobile money fraud in the region.
Just last Sunday, five suspected fraudsters were arrested in Juja Town and Gwa Kairu area in Kiambu County, with over 40,000 sim cards, several mobile phones, and three laptops seized.
