On Wednesday, Safaricom Limited launched a new M-Pesa logo in honour of Eliud Kipchoge, the renowned Kenyan marathoner, ahead of his INEOS 1:59 Challenge in Vienna, Austria on Saturday.

The new logo features the five letters spelling Kipchoge's first name, 'Eliud', and the numbers '1:59' to denote the challenge.

Speaking at the event, Safaricom's acting CEO, Michael Joseph, expressed his company's honour in being associated with Kipchoge, saying, 'It's a great honour for Safaricom to be associated with this great man Eliud Kipchoge. We are honoured to renew our commitment with Eliud Kipchoge and to support him as he races against time.'

As part of the celebration, Safaricom has set up a free SMS line and a free YouTube livestream to enable users to wish Kipchoge well and watch the historic event.

Users can access 1500 megabytes of free data by dialling 159#, which would provide 2-3 hours of YouTube streaming.

Kipchoge's partnership with Safaricom dates back to 2017 when the company launched its 'Twaweza' brand campaign with the marathoner as the brand ambassador.
