Published on October 9, 2019, West Pokot Governor Prof. John Lonyangapuo faced intense questioning from Senators over the prolonged absence of the county's Deputy Governor, Dr. Nicholas Atudonyang, in the United States.

Appearing before the Senate Devolution Committee, Governor Lonyangapuo struggled to provide a clear explanation for Atudonyang's prolonged stay in the US.

According to Lonyangapuo, Atudonyang, a practicing neurosurgeon, had traveled to the US in December 2018 to solicit medical donations for West Pokot County.

However, Lonyangapuo's explanation raised more questions than answers, as he claimed that Atudonyang had fallen ill and was still in the US, despite being told that he was no longer receiving a salary from the county coffers.

When asked about Atudonyang's whereabouts, Lonyangapuo suggested that the Senate or Parliament could take a flight to check on him, sparking further controversy.
