On October 8, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta welcomed Mr. Gabriel Negatu, the outgoing Director General of the African Development Bank's (AfDB) East Africa Regional Development and Business Delivery Office, to State House in Nairobi.

During the farewell ceremony, President Kenyatta thanked AfDB for its crucial support in Kenya's development projects, highlighting the bank's funding of the last mile electricity distribution programme. This initiative has led to a remarkable increase in the number of households connected to electricity, with over 300% more households connected in the past six years.

President Kenyatta also commended Mr. Negatu for his efforts in championing programmes aimed at enhancing trade and people-to-people interactions in East Africa, such as the one-stop border post projects.

Mr. Negatu, who served as AfDB's Director General since December 1, 2016, assured President Kenyatta of the bank's continued commitment to supporting Kenya's development agenda. The President wished Mr. Negatu success in his next assignment.
