Dennis Itumbi and Lawyer Donald Kipkorir Clash Over Tanga Tanga Funds ¶
Published on October 8, 2019
Lawyer Donald Kipkorir has sparked a heated debate on social media after questioning the source of funds for the Tanga Tanga group, which is affiliated with Deputy President William Ruto.
According to Kipkorir, the group has more than KSh 20 million to spend each week, which he claims is more than the KSh 1.8 billion that Safaricom, a leading telecommunications company in East Africa, has donated to the government over the past decade.
"Safaricom, a company with a huge profit margin in East Africa, has donated KSh 1.8 billion to the government over the past decade. This is KSh 3.4 million per week that politicians use. Tanga Tanga has more than KSh 20 million to spend each week, how can they have so much money to win against Safaricom?" Kipkorir asked in a tweet.
The debate was sparked after Kipkorir accused the Tanga Tanga group of misusing funds meant for development projects. Itumbi, who has been at the center of the controversy, responded by accusing Kipkorir of trying to silence him on Twitter.
"You have blocked me on Twitter so that I can't respond to your propaganda," Itumbi tweeted.
The controversy has sparked a heated debate on social media, with many calling for transparency in the use of public funds.
Martha Karua, a senior leader in the Narc Kenya party, has weighed in on the controversy, calling for an end to the "slay queen" behavior.
"This is a classic case of a slay queen trying to silence her critics," Karua tweeted.
