On October 1, 2019, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) arrested a pregnant terror suspect, Said Hussein Chimuru, along with seven others. The suspects have since denied police claims of their involvement in terrorism.
However, Said's experience in custody has raised serious concerns. According to a report by the Daily Nation on October 7, 2019, Said claimed that she was subjected to mistreatment and torture by DCI officials, which put her unborn baby's life at risk.
Said alleged that she was handled with excessive force, causing her to lose feeling in her unborn baby's kicks. She further stated that this was a matter requiring immediate medical attention.
As a result, Said requested the court to allow her to seek medical attention to ensure the safety of her unborn child.
The state prosecutor, Erik Masila, sought to detain the suspects for further investigation, citing them as a threat to public safety.
