DPP Haji Urges Judiciary to Prioritize DJ Evolve's Case

Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has moved to act on a heartbreaking story about DJ Evolve, which was aired by NTV on June 29, 2020.

According to sources, the DPP has instructed the Judiciary to prioritize the hearing of the case, which has been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The case involves Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who is facing charges of second-degree murder.

As reported by The Standard, the incident occurred in January 2020, when DJ Evolve was allegedly shot by Babu Owino. The DJ has been paralyzed and unable to move many of his ligaments, effectively robbing him of control over his fingers, which were his tools of trade as a DJ.

Despite Babu Owino's commitment to paying the hospital bill, which has hit Ksh17 million, the DJ's family struggles to make ends meet. His mother has been taking care of him without any means to make a living.

Second-degree attempted murder attracts a lengthy prison sentence, often ranging from between 5 to 15 years in prison. The incident has sparked a lot of debate, with some commentators arguing that it would be hard for the prosecution to prove that the incident was premeditated and intentional, given the close friendship between the two.
