Police Informer Reveals Abduction and Murder of Lawyer Willy Kimani ¶
On June 23, 2016, lawyer Willy Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda, and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri were abducted by four police officers, including Fredrick Leliman, while leaving the Mavoko Law Courts.
According to Peter Ngugi, a police informer who was involved in the abduction and murder, the officers were led by Leliman, who had instructed Ngugi to follow the complainant after the court session and keep him informed about the man's movement.
Ngugi was paid Ksh.2,000 for the job and was later instructed to dispose of the victims' vehicle, which he abandoned at Kwambira. The officers then took the victims to a bush, where they were killed using a polythene bag and a rope.
Ngugi's confession, which was read out in court on Monday, revealed that the officers had planned to kill the victims after they were abducted. The bodies of the three were found in Athi River near Ol Donyo Sabuk police post in July 2016, a week after they went missing.
Four AP officers, including Leliman, Stephen Cheburet, Sylvia Wanjiku, and Leonard Maina Mwangi, and Ngugi are facing charges of killing Kimani, Mwenda, and Muiruri.
