Published on October 7, 2019, Manchester United fans have been left fuming after a dismal performance by Brazilian midfielder Fred in the 1-0 defeat to Newcastle.
Fred, signed from Shakhtar Donetsk by Jose Mourinho for £52 million in 2018, was heavily criticized by the Red Devils' faithful for his poor showing at St. James' Park.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had handed Fred a starting place in his squad, replacing injured Jesse Lingard, but the move backfired as United suffered their third defeat of the season.
On social media, fans vented their anger and frustration, with one posting, "Fred is the worst signing in Premier League history, it's not even debatable."
Another fan added, "Fred, based on his transfer fee, has got to be the worst signing in Man United's recent history. Approx £52m and we get to see a performance worthy of half that fee."
A third fan concluded, "Fred is the worst signing in United history. Unbelievable how we paid more than £50 million for him. He's utterly hopeless."
