On May 20, 2021, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) launched a probe into alleged embezzlement of Sh55 million at the Nyandarua County Government's head offices in Ol Kalou.

The detectives, led by central region manager Charles Rasugu, targeted Governor Francis Kimemia's office and the department of finance, collecting documents related to the county branding tender issued in 2019.

"They took some documents from the governor's secretary and the finance office to help us crack the case," Rasugu said, adding that they were acting on a complaint filed at the agency.

The probe, which may be extended to other offices, is also focused on a county investment forum that never took place despite the money being spent.

According to the EACC, the county officials allegedly stashed the Sh55 million in private accounts, with some claiming that the money was spent on a ghost investor's conference.

Former Speaker of the Nyandarua County assembly, Ndegwa Wahome, had blown the whistle on the alleged embezzlement in 2019, calling for the return of the money.
