On Saturday evening, police stormed the house of a secondary school teacher in Kisii's Itibo market, arresting him after finding him with a 17-year-old form three student locked in his house.
The police had been informed that the teacher had taken his relationship with the student beyond the classroom, to an inappropriate level.
Concerned residents had seen the minor entering the teacher's house and tipped off the police, who moved in swiftly.
The teacher is alleged to have locked the girl in his house with motives that are under investigation.
Kisii County Police Commander, Martin Kibet, confirmed the incident, stating that the girl has been taken to hospital for examination to determine if she was defiled.
Once the medical examination is complete, the police will take necessary steps based on the report.
This incident is the latest in a worrying trend of teachers engaging in inappropriate relationships with their students.
Just last month, a teacher at Simotwet Secondary School in Kisii was arrested for having an inappropriate relationship with a form three student, including sexual contact in a lodging.
