Kenya Airways, grounded for months due to the coronavirus pandemic, is set to resume domestic flights in the next couple of days, according to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The announcement comes as the country lifts its lockdown on travel between counties, allowing Kenyans to move freely within the country.

"We're doing everything we can to make sure we are back in the skies," President Kenyatta said during a video conference sponsored by the Corporate Council on Africa.

Kenya Airways has suffered significant financial losses due to the pandemic, with estimated losses of Sh10 billion so far this year, and potentially reaching Sh50 billion by the end of 2020, according to the airline's CEO Allan Kilavuka.

The airline had been struggling financially before the pandemic, losing Sh12 billion in 2019, compared to Sh7.1 billion the previous year.
