Naibu Rais William Ruto has spoken out against the high number of bachelors working in his office, urging them to get married and start families.
Speaking at the funeral of his late communications officer, Anthony Kariuki, on October 4, 2019, in Machakos County, Ruto said he had been talking to young men in his office about taking the step of marriage and starting families.
"I have been talking to young men who work in my office about taking the step of marriage and starting families. Now I see, I will not mention names. Funding, I now believe you should take care of your own affairs as I had intended," Ruto said.
The call to action has sparked a heated debate online, with some feeling that Ruto's comments were aimed at his communications officer, Dennis Itumbi, who has been linked to several women, including Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe.
Itumbi and Maribe have been spotted together on several occasions and have even shared photos of themselves holding hands on social media.
