Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has lost his wife, Adelaide, who died at their home in Ikolomani, Kakamega county, after a long battle with cancer.
According to a Facebook post by Khalwale, Adelaide was first diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2003 and had been battling the disease for nearly two decades.
However, she developed blood cancer this year and underwent treatment, which left her cancer-free. Unfortunately, she died from pulmonary hypertension, which developed just a week ago, leaving Khalwale and their family in shock.
Speaking to the media, Khalwale revealed that he and Adelaide had been married for 39 years and that she worked at the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology in Kakamega before her passing.
Residents and local politicians had earlier converged at the politician's home to console him over his first wife's death, leaving him with three wives.
Adelaide's body has been taken to the Mukumu Hospital morgue, where it will be preserved until further arrangements are made.
As reported by The Standard on October 5, 2019, Khalwale expressed his sadness over Adelaide's passing, saying, "She just stopped breathing," and that "As a cancer patient, we knew she was not very far from death, but we didn't know she would die now from pulmonary hypertension."
